Nike Dunk SB Low x Concepts "Blue Lobster"
"RUN! Nothing can stop the Claw!”
In 2008, Concepts were approached by Nike SB to collaborate. Having seen how Nike projects helped other brands, they thought how could they best use this opportunity?
Rob Heppler was working there and when he looked at the vast array of sneaker offerings thought ”what could Concepts do that would be reminiscent of who we are?” Being from Massachusetts himself, he thought back to his childhood weekends shopping with his Nan and distinctly remembered playing with Lobsters. Heppler thought that might fit what people could expect from a Massachusetts based company.
Having spent those weekends, the 10,000 hours adds up! He was a pro in knowing the beauty of Lobsters, their different colours, their hues of red mauve and brown and the fungi that grew on them.
In 2008, The Concepts Fishing Company set sail, with a shoe that was reminiscent of a lobster and packaged complete with a nutcracker, wet naps and crew fishing t-shirts. If you are a "Deadliest Catch" fan, bet you are interested.

A while later, the phone rang again. It's Nike. "what about doing the Blue Lobsters from the original ideas?”
This campaign inspired this stamp.
Together with Pilot (a local agency) they created chaos in New England when they ran a campaign bringing attention to the underbelly of their seemingly peaceful existence. Deadly Lobsters!
I’ve taken artistic licence incorporating Jim Carrey’s line ”nothing can stop the claw!” from Liar and Liar. We had a lot of fun with that growing up and it perfectly fits here. The stamp also follows the same layout as Jaws, Which coincidentally happened in MA. The suspense.

The "Deadly Lobsters" campaign fuelled the mysterious danger with fake metal signs and newspaper clippings of swimmers who oddly disappeared. Writing this, it sounds like something for Scooby Doo.
With a fake scientist ”confirming” his concern for the safety of locals, Concepts topped off the distress and anticipation for the release with a 6 minute long news segment about the Blue Lobsters. Finally, revealing the shoes in the end.

Mwah! Chef’s kiss.
