PUMA Disc Blaze "Coat of Arms"
In 2014, PUMA and Ronnie Fieg joined forces for a second time (after the "Cove" release) under PUMA's collaboration arm PUMA Select.
This was in the early days of PUMA Select and with this collaboration they certainly had my attention and PUMA was well and truly on my radar. At this point I was studying and looking for an internship at a company that reflected my interest and my world. So, I applied... and I got rejected but still loved the shoe. Had to give it to them!
I wanted my portfolio to reflect my interests outside of University and so I illustrated people from streetwear culture and sneakers themselves. After working on my portfolio I saw the same internship position listed again. "Are you really going to apply twice?" I did and this time O got it! I was an intern at PUMA for a year and found another sneaker crazy person in who was just as mad about the "Coat of Arms" as I. We used to watch Ebay listings, giving each other tip-offs when our sizes were listed, debate which colourway was better and give each other nudges when someone in the office walked by wearing them. We aren't just talking the mint or coral pair... the red friends and family too! It was an incredible year and this sneaker marks it for me.
For the stamp, I imagined if PUMA was a coat of arms but after writing, maybe a shrine of these sneakers would have been a more fitting approach.
