Nike Air Jordan 6 "Infrared"
Tinker Hatfield has been prolific in designing a lot of the shoes we love. And with this one, he added another.
In 1991, Hatfield and Michael Jordan worked together to design the Air Jordan VI “Infrared.”
Inspired by Jordan’s love for Porsche, Hatfield was tasked with evoking the same characteristics of speed and class into their latest shoe. Most notably, the VI’s subtly hint to one of Porsche’s distinct features. Jutting out in a similar way to the car’s spoiler, is the shoe’s heel tab/spoiler.
If you are familiar with retro Porsche adverts, you’ll know how bold and alluring they were. Here’s a little something from Porsche’s Archive: “Honestly, did you spend your youth dreaming about someday owning a Nissan or Mitsubishi?... There’s is still only one car that looks, feels and performs like a Porsche 911, a Porsche 911. We are making it more affordable, after all, we know how long you’ve waited.” Ooft!
The Air Jordan VI “Infrared” became the shoe that Jordan won his first Championship. In the following year, he secured his second ring wearing a different variation, the “Carmines.”
