Nike Air Max 95 "Criminal's Choice"
From 1984 until 2017, the BBC ran a TV program called "Crimewatch." Once a month, the show would air and re-enact cases and show CCTV footage of crimes that had yet to be solved. They were real cases and it was always an appeal to the audience to come forward with any useful information. Running for 33 years, it must have been effective!
Airing around 9 pm which was my bedtime as a 10-year-old. The rule was, I had to be ready for bed by the time the show started. So 9pm would come and I would be on the sofa, ready with a cup of tea in my hand (obviously) and wearing my Pokémon pyjamas, the ones with the characters printed all over them, just like my matching duvet cover.
Dum Dum... The theme tune would start and judging from the Youtube comments under the video today, I wasn't the only one already cowering being a pillow. I was about catching Pokémon, not criminals.
The production level was high, they had real actors and the drama was through the charts. I used to think how am I going to sleep? How can I avoid a nightmare? and What will I do tomorrow if I spot one of the people they are looking for? I probably shouldn't have watched it. The show frightened me in the same way a scary movie does when you have to walk home afterwards.
The host, after presenting a case would look for more information and describe the character, what they looked like, height, age etc. There was one reoccurring piece of evidence, the footprint! And who did that footprint belong to? The Nike Air Max 95.
